A Butterfly’s Metamorphosis: Guided Meditation for Pregnancy

In this episode of the Breath and Birth co podcast, Vanessa, a certified birth doula and childbirth educator, guides listeners through a calming meditation inspired by her recent completion of an 85-hour prenatal yoga teacher training. Vanessa shares the details of her new pregnancy retreat called 'Becoming,' aimed at fostering calm, confidence, and connection for expectant mothers. The episode includes a soothing visualization of a butterfly's metamorphosis, encouraging listeners to embrace their own journey of transformation during pregnancy.

Welcome to today’s meditation, which has extra meaning to me. Last weekend I graduated from my 85-hr Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training through Trisha of Columbus Yoga Teacher Trainings with and at Georgia’s beautiful Wildflower Ridge. To complete the course, I had to create and present a business plan for how I intended to incorporate prenatal yoga into my offerings, and practice teach a prenatal yoga flow to our cohort. Which, by the way, is one of the most nerve-wracking things I’ve done in awhile!

As you probably know by now, I have an online self-paced course called Metamorphosis. The name ties back to the concept of a butterfly’s transformation. This concept has been laced throughout my own life in more ways than I can count, perhaps rooted in my actual name- Vanessa, which is the name of a genus of butterflies.

My final project was the creation of a one-day pregnancy retreat called Becoming, which I hope to host late Summer/early Fall this year. The retreat will consist of a Mother’s Blessing ceremony, a fear release ritual, birth options game, nourishing lunch, provider panel with perinatal experts, prenatal yoga session, and a sound bath. There will also be opportunities for mini maternity photo sessions throughout the day. Ticket purchase will include access to the entire Calm module of Metamorphosis, with opportunity to upgrade to the full Metamorphosis course at a discounted price.

For the prenatal yoga flow itself, it opens up with butterfly pose and a brief visualization of a butterfly’s transformation as if you yourself are the butterfly taking flight for the first time. So today’s meditation is an expansion on that exercise in honor of my own yogic ceremony and transformation into a prenatal yoga instructor. I hope you can feel the heart work that went into it.
